A 25-year-old lady, Ishaya Mercy has regained her freedom after bravely identifying her abductors to soldiers at a checkpoint. She had been kidnapped from the New Bwari community in Tafa Local Government Area, Niger State.
Reports indicate that Mercy was abducted on August 28, 2024, during an attack in which her father, Godiya Ishaya, a businessman, was severely injured and left bleeding.
However, fortune smiled on her when soldiers stopped a fleeing Toyota Sienna during a security operation targeting bandits in the Dogon-Daji Forest, Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
A family member revealed to City & Crime that when the vehicle was stopped, Mercy immediately informed the soldiers that she had been abducted, providing her father’s phone number for verification.
She was taken to the hospital for treatment and later reunited with her family. The suspects were transferred to a military barracks in Kaduna.
Abubakar Hussaini, the commander of the Tafa LGA vigilantes, confirmed the rescue.
