Troops Seize Illegally Mined Stones in Taraba Arrest

Troops of the 6 Brigade, stationed at the Garba Chede Checkpoint in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba state in Nigeria, have arrested a group of illegal miners and seized precious stones being smuggled from the area.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the troops intercepted a truck with foreign registration B 0515 VV on 17 December, finding it concealing illegally mined products.

The stones were hidden in sacks covered with dry grass to avoid detection.

The driver, Abubakar Suleiman, and eight others were taken into custody.

They were handed over to the Taraba State Special Taskforce Committee for further investigation and prosecution.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa of the 6 Brigade reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to supporting civil authorities in enforcing environmental regulations.

He urged the public to report suspicious activities to ensure a safer, more sustainable environment.
