The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that three people died in a road accident after a truck carrying goods crashed into a stationary trailer along the Zaria-Kano Road in the early hours of Monday.

The Kano Sector Public Education and Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday night.

According to the statement, the fatal crash occurred at about 5:45 a.m. shortly after the Imawa U-turn along the highway.

Labaran said the FRSC received a report of the incident around 5:55 a.m., and a rescue team was dispatched immediately, arriving at the scene within five minutes.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano Sector Command, regrets to announce a fatal road traffic crash that claimed the lives of three persons in the early hours of Monday, March 9, 2026.

“The unfortunate crash occurred at about 0545 hours along the Zaria-Kano Road (ZAR–KAN), after the Imawa U-Turn,” the statement partly read.

Preliminary findings indicated that the accident involved a commercial vehicle, a DAF XF truck with registration number FKA603XA.

He explained that the crash was a lone accident that happened after the truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a trailer that had been parked along the dual carriageway.

The FRSC spokesperson said three adult male occupants were involved in the crash and all of them died from injuries sustained in the impact.

He added that rescue officials evacuated the victims and deposited their bodies at Kura General Hospital.

Reacting to the incident, the Kano Sector Commander of the FRSC, Idris Mohammed Lawal, expressed sadness over the loss of lives and urged motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise greater caution on the roads.

He stressed the importance of maintaining safe speeds, staying alert behind the wheel and avoiding fatigue, especially during early morning journeys.

The sector commander also warned against indiscriminate parking on highways, describing it as a serious danger to other road users.

The FRSC extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to strictly observe traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies on Nigerian roads.
