A man was severely injured on Saturday after a fully loaded truck plunged off the Oshodi Bridge in Lagos State, authorities confirmed.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the six-tyre truck, registered AKD 135 YK, suffered brake failure while descending Oshodi-Oke towards Mile 2 and skidded off the bridge into a terminal ditch.

In a statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA said its operatives responded swiftly, rescuing the injured man and restoring order at the scene.

“Preliminary findings showed that the truck, which was carrying toner printing materials, lost control due to a mechanical fault before tumbling off the carriageway,” the statement read.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, while the driver was arrested and handed over to police officers from Makinde Police Station for further investigation.

To prevent further accidents, LASTMA officers cordoned off the site, diverted traffic, and supervised the removal of the wreckage, restoring normal movement shortly after.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Bakare Oki, praised the officers for their quick response, professionalism, and adherence to safety protocols, describing the operation as an example of the agency’s commitment to public safety and traffic management.
