Allegations of a cover-up resurfaced on Sunday concerning files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as Democrats accused US President Donald Trump of preventing their full release.
The accusations followed the release on Friday of a batch of Epstein-related records by the US Department of Justice (DOJ). Many of the documents were redacted, with large sections blacked out and several photographs censored.
Some images were later removed from the online release, including one showing Trump, after briefly appearing on Friday evening.
Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin said the redactions suggested an attempt to hide damaging information.
“It’s all about covering up things that, for whatever reason, Donald Trump doesn’t want to go public, either about himself, other members of his family, friends,” Raskin said during an interview on CNN.

The DOJ said the redactions were necessary to protect victims and comply with the law.
“Photos and other materials will continue being reviewed and redacted consistent with the law in an abundance of caution as we receive additional information,” said a DOJ statement.
Photographs of former President Bill Clinton and other well-known figures, including pop stars Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger, were among the materials that DOJ made public.
At least one file contained dozens of censored images of nude or scantily clad figures. Other previously unseen photographs showed Britain’s former royal Prince Andrew lying across the legs of five women.
Additional images showed Clinton in a hot tub, part of the image blacked out, and swimming alongside a dark-haired woman believed to be Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
