US President Donald Trump announced Monday that he spoke with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia, taking credit for brokering a ceasefire between the two nations.
“Just spoke to the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand and the Prime Minister of Cambodia. I am pleased to announce that, after the involvement of President Donald J. Trump, both countries have reached a CEASEFIRE and PEACE. Congratulations to all!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
Last Thursday, at least 38 people were killed following border clashes involving jets, rockets and artillery.
The fighting which lasted five days displaced some 300,000 people .
On Monday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s Phumtham agreed to an “unconditional” halt in the standoff.
The truce talks were the result of a push from Malaysian Premier Anwar Ibrahim, with US President Donald Trump also claiming credit.
