President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the successful recovery of a second American airman who had been downed behind enemy lines in Iran.
Describing the mission as “one of the most daring search and rescue operations in U.S. history,” Trump revealed on social media that the pilot was rescued from treacherous mountain terrain while being pursued by Iranian forces.
The president noted that while the airman sustained injuries, he is expected to recover, adding that the mission’s success followed a previously unconfirmed rescue of another pilot just a day prior.
The high-stakes rescue occurred against a backdrop of intensifying regional violence, with Iran launching fresh waves of missiles and drones at Israel, Kuwait, and the UAE early Sunday.
These attacks follow Trump’s recent 48-hour ultimatum, in which he warned Tehran to negotiate or face “all hell.”
Iranian military leadership have since rejected the threat, dismissing it as “unbalanced” and counter-warning that they are prepared to retaliate with equal force.

Meanwhile, Gulf allies reported strikes on critical infrastructure, including a refinery fire in Bahrain and engagements over Emirati aluminium plants.
The conflict has increasingly targeted economic and industrial hubs, raising global alarms over energy security and potential environmental disasters.
A recent strike near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant resulted in the death of a guard and prompted Russia to evacuate nearly 200 personnel.
While the IAEA reports no radiation spikes currently, Iranian officials have warned that continued attacks on the coastal facility could lead to fallout threatening nearby Gulf capitals.
As the war enters its second month, former international observers and local protesters alike are calling for urgent diplomacy to prevent the region from escalating into a total conflagration.
