President Donald Trump made a surprise appearance on a White House rooftop on Tuesday, where he joked about installing “nuclear missiles” while surveying the site of his proposed new ballroom.
Flanked by bodyguards and protected by snipers, the president spent 20 minutes on the roof above the press room.
When asked by reporters why he was there, Trump responded that he was “taking a little walk.”
He then joked about building nuclear missiles, mimicking a launch, at a time of heightened tensions with Russia.
Last week, Trump ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed near Russia in response to remarks from former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.

The proposed ballroom is part of a series of projects Trump has undertaken to leave his mark on the White House, drawing on the lavish style of his private properties.
He has already made changes to the Rose Garden and the Oval Office.
The new ballroom, estimated to cost $200 million, would be the most significant project at the White House in over a century.
Trump has said he plans to cover the costs himself, possibly with help from private donors, calling it “just another way to spend my money for the country.”
