President Donald Trump is currently considering an urgent request from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to delay a planned military strike on Iran by two weeks.

The appeal arrived just hours before a midnight GMT deadline, during which the U.S. has threatened to dismantle Iran’s infrastructure.

Sharif’s proposal serves as a potential diplomatic “off-ramp,” coupled with a request for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for the same period as a sign of goodwill.

The White House confirmed that the president is aware of the proposal, though a final decision has not yet been announced.

The tension follows a series of highly provocative statements from Trump, who warned on social media that “a whole civilisation will die” if a deal is not reached.

While the president indicated that “heated negotiations” are ongoing, he also suggested that the recent leadership changes in Iran could lead to a “wonderful” breakthrough.

However, his rhetoric has sparked a domestic firestorm, with critics and even some former political allies expressing horror at the prospect of such a massive escalation.

Opponents in the U.S. Senate and former election rivals have condemned the threats as “abhorrent,” with some even suggesting the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office.

Concerns were further heightened by Vice President JD Vance’s warning that the U.S. possesses military tools it has not yet deployed, leading to public speculation regarding the use of nuclear weapons—a claim the White House has since vehemently denied.

As the clock ticks toward the deadline, the international community remains on edge, waiting to see if diplomacy will prevail over the threat of total war.
