During a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his Scottish golf resort on Monday, US President Donald Trump issued a stern ultimatum to Russia regarding the war in Ukraine, threatening new sanctions if the conflict isn’t ended quickly.
Trump, expressing his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s continued strikes on Ukrainian civilian targets, significantly shortened an earlier 50-day deadline to “about 10 or 12 days,” effective immediately.
He stated he was “not so interested in talking (to him) anymore,” despite previously believing the conflict would end. Ukraine’s presidential aide Andriy Yermak swiftly praised Trump’s stance, thanking him for “standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength.”
The discussions between Trump and Starmer also focused on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and efforts to revive stalled ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.
Trump acknowledged “real starvation” in the Palestinian territory and announced that the US would establish walk-in “food centres” in Gaza to deliver aid and “save a lot of people.”

Starmer, facing domestic pressure to recognise a Palestinian state, described the situation in Gaza as an “absolute catastrophe.”
The leaders also discussed the implementation of a UK-US trade deal signed on May 8, which aims to lower tariffs for certain UK exports but has not yet taken effect.
Trump hinted that he would not impose heavy tariffs on British pharmaceuticals, stating, “With the relationship we have, you would not use that as a cudgel.”
This meeting comes after the US and the European Union reached a landmark deal to avert a trade war over tariffs, an agreement secured during EU chief Ursula von der Leyen’s visit to Trump’s resort on Sunday.
Trump’s administration, aiming for “90 deals in 90 days,” has recently achieved success with accords with Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and the EU, which are expected to replace current tariff regimes on August 1.
Trump’s five-day visit to Scotland has combined leisure, including playing golf at Turnberry, with diplomatic engagements, further intertwining his presidential role with his business interests.
Following their meeting, Trump and Starmer were scheduled to travel to Aberdeen for the opening of a new golf course at Trump’s resort on Tuesday.
