U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday urged Iran to “make a deal,” cautioning that “even more brutal” attacks were still to come, following significant Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
His remarks were made on his Truth Social platform shortly after Israel reported pounding 100 targets in Iran in a series of air raids.
The Israeli operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian figures, including the armed forces chief and top nuclear scientists, prompting Iran to label Israel’s actions a “declaration of war.”
President Trump stated on Friday morning that he had “given Iran chance after chance to make a deal.” He emphasised that Israel, a nation with which his administration is closely aligned, possesses a vast arsenal thanks to the United States, and “they know how to use it.”
“There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end,” Trump posted on Truth Social. He strongly urged, “Iran must make a deal before there is nothing left… JUST DO IT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
Earlier, Trump informed Fox News that he was aware of the Israeli strikes beforehand and underscored that Tehran “cannot have a nuclear bomb.”
He also expressed hope for a return to the negotiating table, according to Fox News.
During his first term, Trump withdrew the United States from a landmark agreement that offered sanctions relief to Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear programme.
Fox News also reported that the Trump administration had notified at least one key Middle Eastern ally about the impending strike while clarifying that the United States was not directly involved in the operation.
The broadcaster added that Trump affirmed the U.S. is prepared to defend itself and Israel if Iran retaliates.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously stated on Thursday that the U.S. was “not involved in strikes against Iran, and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” adding, “Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel.”
