U.S. President Donald Trump has warned the Cuban government to negotiate with the United States “before it is too late,” saying Venezuela will no longer send oil or financial support to Havana.
In posts on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said the flow of Venezuelan oil and money to Cuba has ended and urged Cuban authorities to seek a deal, without providing details on what such an agreement would entail or the consequences if one is not reached.
“There will be no more oil or money going to Cuba — zero! I strongly suggest they make a deal before it is too late,” Trump wrote.
Trump also reposted a social media message suggesting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could become president of Cuba, adding “Sounds good to me!” to the repost.

In a separate post, Trump said Cuba had relied for years on Venezuelan oil and financial assistance in return for security services, but that this arrangement is not happening anymore.
“Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela. In return, Cuba provided ‘Security Services’ for the last two Venezuelan dictators, BUT NOT ANYMORE!”
“Most of those Cubans are DEAD from last week’s U.S.A. attack, and Venezuela doesn’t need protection anymore from the thugs and extortionists who held them hostage for so many years.”
Since 2000, Havana has become more dependent on Venezuelan oil supplied as part of an agreement with Maduro’s predecessor, Hugo Chavez, due to a US trade embargo.
