Tunisia Arrests Two Convicted of ‘Belonging to a Terrorist Organisation’

Tunisian authorities have arrested two individuals convicted of belonging to a terrorist organisation, according to statements released by the General Directorate of the National Guard yesterday.

In one statement, officials reported the arrest of a Takfiri individual in the Bizerte governorate, who had been wanted under multiple search warrants issued by the Tunis Court of Appeal. The individual, suspected of membership in a terrorist organisation, had been sentenced to four years in prison.

In a separate statement, authorities confirmed the arrest of two people in Kasserine, one of whom was wanted in connection with 19 cases and had been sentenced to 11 years in prison on charges of involvement with a terrorist group.

Tunisia has experienced intermittent terrorist attacks, which have resulted in the deaths of dozens of security personnel, soldiers, and foreign tourists.
