The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested and returned a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, who fled his country after being convicted of fraud earlier this year.
Force spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin stated on Tuesday that Huseyin, sentenced by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court to 14 years, eight months, and ten days, left Turkey shortly after his conviction in an attempt to avoid serving his sentence.
Hundeyin explained that the fugitive travelled through the Middle East before arriving in Nigeria.

“In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice requesting member countries to locate and arrest him. Acting on this, INTERPOL NCB Abuja conducted discreet, intelligence-led operations that led to his capture in Abuja,” the statement said.
The spokesman added that Huseyin has now been repatriated to Istanbul to begin serving his sentence, following the completion of required documentation and collaboration with international partners.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the INTERPOL unit for its professional handling of the operation and emphasised that Nigeria would not serve as a refuge for fugitives. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to fulfilling international obligations, strengthening police-to-police cooperation, and supporting global efforts against transnational crime.
