The Foreign Minister of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, expressed grave concern on Saturday regarding Israel’s intensifying military operations in Lebanon.

Speaking at a news conference, Fidan accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of utilising the conflict with Hezbollah as a pretext to move toward a “new genocide.”

He urged the global community to intervene immediately to halt the escalating violence and address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.

The conflict in Lebanon intensified following Hezbollah’s retaliatory strikes against Israel, which were launched after the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Since the outbreak of hostilities, the Lebanese health ministry has reported 826 fatalities, including 106 children and 65 women, with over 2,000 others wounded.

Ankara, which has been a vocal critic of Israel’s military actions, has frequently compared the current situation in Lebanon to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Israel has consistently denied all allegations of genocide, including those raised in a UN probe regarding its operations in Gaza.

However, Türkiye continues to lobby for international accountability, citing the heavy civilian toll across both fronts.

As the regional war enters a more volatile phase, Fidan emphasised that international silence only enables further crimes, calling for a unified diplomatic response to protect civilian lives.
