According to the state news agency Anadolu, Turkish espionage director Ibrahim Kalin and his Iranian counterpart met in Tehran to talk about the war on “terror” groups and the Syrian situation.
Anadolu said late Saturday that Kalin had a meeting with Iran’s intelligence minister, Esmail Khatib, and security chief, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, who is also the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
They discussed “the fight against terror organisations, especially the PKK and Daesh, common threats, the situation in Syria, the Gaza ceasefire, and developments in the Palestinian issue,” it said, referring to the banned Kurdish militant group and using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.

The two nations were on opposing sides of the protracted civil conflict in Syria, with Iran supporting the regime of recently overthrown strongman Bashar al-Assad and Türkiye traditionally supporting his opponents.
The leaders of Iran and Türkiye met for the first time in Cairo later that month after Assad was overthrown on December 8.
According to diplomatic sources cited by Anadolu, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iranian colleague Abbas Araghchi spoke over the phone on Saturday about bilateral matters and “the situation in Palestine.”
