At least two people died and 10 others were injured in a deadly exchange of gunfire on the Greek island of Crete on Saturday.

State media reports suggest the violence, which occurred in the village of Vorizia, is linked to an ongoing family vendetta.

The incident involved multiple weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles and shotguns, and occurred just hours after a house in the same village was targeted with an explosive device.

Heavily armed police have surrounded the area to manage the situation and allow access for medical teams.

Senior police officials are heading to the scene, though no arrests have been made yet, as some suspects are believed to have fled into a nearby ravine.

The region is known for widespread illegal gun ownership and frequent outbreaks of family-based violence.
