Two people have reportedly been killed in a fire inside a COVID-19 ward in Limpopo. The fire broke out at the F.H Odendaal Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.
One of the two victims had been on admission for treatment. The MEC for health, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, arrived at the site for an on-the-spot assessment.
The department said in a brief statement that other patients were rescued, but two unfortunately died.
The DA Limpopo Spokesperson on Health, Risham Maharaj and DA Deputy Shadow Minister for Health, Lindy Wilson are expected to conduct an oversight inspection at FH Odendaal Hospital in Modimolle tomorrow.
A team of experts has been dispatched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire.
