The United States Embassy in Abuja has announced that it will reopen for routine services on Monday, March 9, 2026, after temporarily suspending operations due to concerns over potential protests in the Nigerian capital.
In a notice on X, the embassy said it had closed for routine business as a precautionary measure against the possibility of demonstrations in Abuja.
Notice: Embassy Appointments Rescheduled Due to Potential Protests
Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S. Embassy will be closed for routine business until Monday, March 9, 2026.

The closure affected visa appointments scheduled for March 4 and 5, as well as American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments set for March 5.Â

According to the embassy, those appointments have now been rescheduled for next week.
Visa applicants were advised to check their email or their AVITS accounts for new appointment dates, while applicants for American Citizen Services were asked to monitor their email for updated schedules.
The embassy added that applicants who do not see a new appointment date should contact the mission through its Visa Navigator platform for assistance.
It also urged the public to continue monitoring its website and social media channels for further updates.
