The U.S. Embassy in Accra announced on Wednesday that more than 2,000 visa appointment slots are available over the next two weeks for B1/B2 travellers.

The slots cover business trips, family visits, tourism, or travel to watch the FIFA World Cup.

The embassy asked visitors with appointments later in the year to consider rescheduling to take advantage of the open slots, as stated in a publication on X.

It wrote, “We have more than 2,000 visa appointment slots available in the next two weeks for B1/B2 travelers — whether you’re planning a business trip, visiting family, general tourism, or wanting to watch the World Cup!

“If you already have a U.S. visa appointment for later in the year, consider moving it up now.”

Ghana is one of the few African countries not affected by President Donald Trump’s ban on non-immigrant visas.

Last year, the government of President John Mahama negotiated with the U.S. State Department to lift the single-entry, three-month validity restriction previously imposed on Ghanaian non-immigrant visas.

“The US visa restriction imposed on Ghana has been reversed. Ghanaians can now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas and other enhanced consular privileges,” Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Ablakwa,

“This good news was directly communicated to me by US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, at a bilateral meeting earlier today, in the margins of the UN General Assembly.

“I am really pleased that months of high-level Diplomatic negotiations have led to a successful outcome.”
