The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has barred Sudanese aircraft from landing at its airports, according to Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority, in a move that signals escalating tensions between the two nations.
In a statement carried by Sudan’s state news agency on Wednesday, the authority also said a Sudanese airline was prevented from taking off from Abu Dhabi airport.
Expressing its surprise, Sudan’s aviation body said it was working with affected airlines to reschedule flights for passengers travelling to and from the UAE.
Authorities in Abu Dhabi have not issued a response to Sudan’s remarks.
Diplomatic ties between the two countries were severed in May, after Sudan accused the UAE of supplying advanced weapons to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces amid the ongoing civil war that began in April 2023. The UAE has consistently rejected the allegations.
