Uganda’s army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has said he wants opposition leader Bobi Wine dead, according to posts he made on social media late Monday.
Kainerugaba, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, made the declarations days after Wine said he had gone into hiding following a police raid on his home.
In one post on X, Kainerugaba wrote, “We have killed 22 NUP terrorists since last week. I’m praying the 23rd is Kabobi,” referring to Wine and his National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
While in another, he said the opposition leader had 48 hours to surrender to police or be treated as an outlaw/rebel.
“As for Kabobi, the permanent loser, I’m giving him exactly 48 hours to surrender himself to the police. If he doesn’t, we will treat him as an outlaw/rebel and handle him accordingly.”
Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, said on Saturday that he fled his residence after security forces moved in.

Reacting to Kainerugaba’s tweet, Wine said they amounted to “threats to kill me” and called for security forces to leave his compound, adding, “My wife and people are not safe.”
Kainerugaba, who is notorious for his vibrant tweets, threatened to decapitate Wine last year.
Kainerugaba’s comments came after his father, Museveni, was declared the winner of an eighth term in elections held last week, which were criticised by election observers and human rights groups.
Opposition parties, including Wine’s National Unity Platform, have accused authorities of intimidation and violence during the campaign, allegations the government has denied.
