The governments of Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have commenced a visa waiver for holders of certain diplomatic and service passports, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Tuesday.
“All United Arab Emirates nationals holding the aforementioned passport categories are now granted visa-free entry into Uganda for stays not exceeding 90 days, subject to standard immigration procedures, including presentation of a valid passport, proof of onward/return travel (where applicable), among others,” the Ugandan government said.
The agreement, signed on May 7, 2025, also allows Ugandan holders of diplomatic and service passports to travel to the UAE without a visa for “a maximum period of ninety (90) days in any 180-day period preceding each day of stay,” the ministry said.

Simon Peter Mundeyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that “this waiver does not apply to holders of ordinary Ugandan passports, and they are still subject to the routine visa application procedures to the UAE.”
The Ministry noted that the visa waiver for UAE nationals travelling to Uganda “took effect from 10th February 2026” and described the development as reflecting “the growing partnership between Uganda and the UAE in areas of mutual interest.”
