British counter-terrorism officers have launched a high-priority investigation after four volunteer ambulances operated by a Jewish organisation were destroyed in a targeted arson attack in North London.
The incident occurred early Monday morning near a synagogue in Golders Green, a neighbourhood with a significant Jewish population.
CCTV footage captured three hooded suspects dousing the vehicles in accelerant before they were engulfed in flames, causing onboard oxygen cylinders to explode.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the act as a “deeply shocking antisemitic” crime, asserting that such hatred has no place in British society.
The investigation is currently scrutinising an online claim of responsibility from a group known as Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI).

According to the SITE monitoring service, this group appears to be aligned with Iranian interests and has claimed similar recent attacks on Jewish sites in Belgium and the Netherlands.
While the group’s authenticity is still being verified, security experts are weighing whether it is a genuine militant cell or a facade for foreign hybrid operations.
In the wake of the fire, the UK government has pledged to provide four replacement ambulances by Tuesday morning to ensure the vital emergency service remains operational.
This attack follows a documented surge in antisemitic incidents across the UK, including a fatal synagogue attack in Manchester late last year.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis described the Hatzalah volunteer service as an “extraordinary” corps dedicated to saving all lives, regardless of faith, and vowed that the community would not be intimidated.
As police continue their search for the three suspects, residents and leaders have held rallies in Golders Green to stand against the rising tide of hate crimes and call for increased protection for religious institutions.
