The United Kingdom (UK) will host Donald Trump on a historic second state visit in September, Buckingham Palace announced on Monday, revealing that he will be the guest of King Charles III at Windsor Castle.
The US president, along with First Lady Melania Trump, has accepted His Majesty The King’s invitation for a state visit to the United Kingdom from September 17 to September 19, 2025, according to a statement from the palace.
This visit will take place just two months after King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte at Windsor.
Trump received the invitation through a personal letter from Charles, which was delivered to him by Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his trip to Washington in February.
Starmer has been attempting to cultivate a closer relationship with Trump to strengthen ties and improve the UK’s position in challenging trade negotiations with the US.
Trump, who has always admired the British royal family, expressed his joy at the invitation, referring to it as a “very great honour,” and revealed the king’s letter in front of cameras around the world.
“This is really special, this has never happened before, this is unprecedented,” Starmer said in the Oval Office as he handed Trump a hand-signed letter from the monarch.
During his first visit in 2019, Britain honoured Trump with a lavish welcome when he met the late Queen Elizabeth II, the mother of King Charles. No other foreign leader has had a second state visit before.
Starmer is also scheduled to meet with Trump this month, as the Republican leader plans to visit Scotland, where he owns two golf resorts.
Although the White House has not confirmed the visit, Downing Street announced on Monday that Trump will be “visiting in a private capacity,” and noted that “the prime minister is pleased to accept the president’s invitation to meet during his stay.”
