On Sunday, Ukrainian attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure resulted in widespread power outages across several border regions.
Local authorities reported that over 20,000 residents were left without electricity.
The most significant damage was reported in the regional capital of Belgorod, where the electricity and heating network was severely damaged, cutting power to over 20,000 people, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Separately, a fire at a power plant in the Kursk region cut power to 10 localities, and another fire broke out at a heating facility in the Voronezh region.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed to have successfully shot down 44 drones over the Bryansk region.
These strikes follow large-scale Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure on Saturday, which caused significant damage, cut generating capacity for a major provider to “zero,” and resulted in at least four deaths.
Overnight into Sunday, Moscow launched 69 drones at Ukrainian energy facilities, with 34 reportedly shot down.
