The United Nations chief, António Guterres, on Saturday, affirmed the organisation’s total dedication to achieving an urgent end to the fighting in Sudan.
Speaking from an African Union summit in Ethiopia, Guterres highlighted the urgency of ending a three-year civil war that has created the world’s most severe humanitarian disaster.
The conflict, which began in April 2023, involves a brutal power struggle between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with over 11 million people displaced and tens of thousands killed.
Guterres criticised external actors “arming” both sides, amid ongoing allegations—denied by Abu Dhabi—that the UAE is supplying the RSF.

Beyond Sudan, Guterres expressed deep concern over rising tensions in the Horn of Africa.
He urged reconciliation between Ethiopia and Eritrea to prevent a return to the open warfare that previously devastated the region.
With millions of lives at risk across the continent, the UN chief is calling for a unified international front to pressure warring factions into peace.
