The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, launched a $325 million emergency humanitarian appeal on Friday to address the escalating displacement crisis in Lebanon.

The appeal, announced at the Lebanese prime minister’s office in Beirut, is designed to support hundreds of thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire of the intensifying conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

Guterres emphasised that the international community must step up to prevent a total collapse of the country’s overstretched social and economic infrastructure.

The funding is intended to provide a critical lifeline over the next three months, focusing on delivering food, clean water, and emergency healthcare.

Beyond basic survival needs, the appeal also covers education and protection services for displaced families, many of whom are currently seeking refuge in overcrowded schools and public buildings.

Guterres noted that this “flash appeal” is essential to scaling up the response as the number of people forced from their homes continues to climb daily.

During the conference with donor nations and UN agencies, the Secretary-General underscored that the situation requires immediate action to mitigate the human cost of the regional war.

He warned that without this rapid injection of aid, the already fragile humanitarian landscape in Lebanon could reach a point of no return.

The initiative aims to ensure that life-saving assistance reaches the most vulnerable populations as the security situation remains volatile.
