UN to Discuss Israel’s Gaza Occupation Plan

The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting on Saturday in response to Israel’s recent announcement to “take control of Gaza City,” a move that has sparked widespread international condemnation, Anadolu reports.

The session was requested by the permanent missions of the UK, Denmark, France, Greece, and Slovenia, according to information obtained by Anadolu on Friday. Diplomatic sources revealed that all Security Council members have backed the meeting, except for Panama — the current chair — and the United States.

The emergency meeting is expected to take place on Saturday afternoon amid growing global concern over the escalating situation in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to fully occupy Gaza City was announced early on Friday, intensifying outrage over Israel’s ongoing military campaign in the region. Since October 2023, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of more than 61,000 people in Gaza, with the enclave suffering devastating destruction and widespread hunger and starvation.
