US: Hamas Must Free 10 Captives for 60-Day Ceasefire Extension

The United States has reportedly requested that Hamas release ten live Israeli captives in return for extending the ceasefire in Gaza for another 60 days.

The proposed deal includes opening the border crossings into Gaza, resuming humanitarian aid, and initiating negotiations for the next phase of the agreement, according to a Palestinian source.

Sky News Arabia cited an unnamed source familiar with the talks, who said that Hamas is still considering its response to the US proposal.

Israeli officials have estimated that out of the 59 Israeli captives, 25 are alive.

On Wednesday, a US envoy met for direct talks with Hamas officials, as well as mediators from Egypt and Qatar, to discuss the broader framework for the ceasefire and a possible prisoner swap.

Discussions between the US and Egypt also touched on potential candidates for a future government in Gaza.

While two Egyptian sources described the talks as positive, an Israeli source refuted claims of progress in the negotiations for the next phase.
