US Military Drone Crashes in Somalia, Investigation in Progress

A US Army-operated MQ-1C drone crashed in southern Somalia earlier this week, according to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM). The drone went down around 12:40 p.m. local time (09:40 GMT) on Tuesday.

AFRICOM confirmed the crash yesterday via a statement on X, stating that while an investigation is ongoing, there is no indication that the drone was shot down.

The crash comes as Somalia continues its prolonged conflict with the Al-Shabaab terror group, which has remained active in the region despite ongoing efforts by Somali and allied forces.
