Nigerian Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka announced Tuesday that the United States revoked his visa, temporarily blocking his entry into the country.

Soyinka shared this information during a media event at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery in Freedom Park, Lagos Island, expressing his confusion over any actions that might have led to the revocation.

“It is necessary for me to hold this conference so that people in the United States who are expecting me for this event or that event do not waste their time.

“I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me,” he told journalists.

The rationale behind the visa cancellation remains vague, and Soyinka indicated that he is still unaware of any details surrounding it.

Recently, the US government implemented measures to reduce the number of migrants entering the country.

According to Soyinka, the US Consulate notified him of his visa revocation through a letter dated October 23, 2025. This letter was issued by the NIV Section of the Consulate.
