The US Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal against her sex trafficking conviction linked to financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The court dismissed her case without providing any explanation.
Maxwell, 63, received a 20-year prison sentence in 2022 for recruiting underage girls for Epstein, who died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial.
His death has continued to fuel conspiracy theories, particularly among supporters of President Donald Trump, many of whom believe influential figures shielded Epstein’s associates.
Maxwell’s legal team argued that a 2007 non-prosecution deal with Epstein should have protected her from trial. Her lawyer, David Oscar Markus, expressed deep disappointment at the ruling but vowed to continue pursuing legal options.
The Supreme Court’s decision leaves a pardon or clemency from Trump as Maxwell’s only likely route to early release.
She remains the sole Epstein associate convicted over the trafficking network and was recently moved from a Florida prison to a lower-security facility in Texas following an interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, formerly Trump’s personal lawyer.
