Two U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, marking the first such passage since the conflict with Iran began.

President Donald Trump announced on social media that the United States has begun “clearing out” the strategic waterway, which has been largely blocked by Tehran since late February.

According to reports, the transit was conducted without coordination with Iranian authorities, signalling a bold move to re-establish access to one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.

President Trump framed the operation as a service to global powers like China, Japan, and France, claiming they lacked the “will” to secure the passage themselves.

While asserting that Iran is “losing big” in the ongoing war, the president acknowledged the persistent danger of Iranian sea mines, which continue to threaten vessels in the area.

Despite these risks, he noted that empty tankers are already mobilising to purchase oil as the U.S. looks to restore maritime commerce.

The timing of this naval manoeuvre coincides with the start of high-level negotiations in Pakistan between American and Iranian officials.

These talks aim to solidify a fragile two-week ceasefire and end a conflict that has severely disrupted the global economy and local energy markets.

Although reopening the Strait was a key condition of the truce, the unilateral U.S. transit highlights the continued tension as both sides attempt to navigate a path toward a more durable peace.
