UFC star Kamaru Usman has apologised after facing backlash for posting a video that included a private conversation with former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

The backlash followed the release of a YouTube video posted by Usman, in which Joshua spoke emotionally about the crash that killed two of his friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

Usman wrote on X on Thursday that he took responsibility for the release of the footage, saying, “After seeing what’s being written, it’s quite heartbreaking.

“Being on camera that whole day in preparation for The AKO show, it completely slipped my mind that my conversation was recorded.

“I realised after and asked about it. I take full responsibility for not properly watching the video that was released and keeping my private conversation with my brother AJ private. SMH 🤦🏿‍♂️ big L on me. That’s not something I would ever do to a friend/brother.”

Joshua survived the accident, which occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway. The two victims died at the scene.

Footage from the incident showed Joshua grimacing in pain as he was pulled from the wrecked vehicle and taken to the hospital for treatment.

In the video, Joshua was seen inside a treatment room with bandages on his head and torso as he spoke with Usman about the crash. When asked about the seating arrangement in the vehicle, Joshua confirmed that both victims were inside the car.

“Obviously, two of my close friends passed away,” Joshua said. “One was in the front and one was behind him, on the right side. They both passed away. It still hasn’t sunk in. It still hasn’t hit me yet.”
