Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk insists he will not panic over his future, even as his contract with the club remains unresolved. The 33-year-old defender’s current deal expires in June, and negotiations have yet to produce an extension.

Van Dijk, who has spent seven successful years at Anfield, is set to lead Liverpool in Sunday’s League Cup final against Newcastle. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, he maintains his focus remains on the pitch.

“Maybe I will run this fully down and then there is still no news, I don’t know,” Van Dijk said. “But I don’t want to create any anxiety or anything like that. I just keep my head down and focus on hopefully winning the next 10 games.”

The Dutchman, a key figure in Liverpool’s Premier League title charge, reassured fans that he remains fully committed to the club. “If I was worried, you would see me playing a little bit worried, and that is not the case,” he added.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has made it clear that he wants Van Dijk to stay beyond this season. “The only thing I know is that I want Virgil to be here next season,” Slot stated.

Liverpool currently hold a commanding 15-point lead in the Premier League, chasing a record-equalling 20th English title.
