The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported on Thursday that its tower T195 along the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330 kV transmission line was targeted by vandals on Saturday.
According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, the incident occurred in Watuolo village, Utonkon, in Ado Local Government Area of Benue.
However, the vandalism was prevented thanks to the vigilance of local residents, who noticed suspicious activity around 3 a.m. and promptly apprehended one of the suspects while others fled.
Mbah commended the people of Watuolo village for their swift action and urged other communities to follow suit in protecting critical infrastructure.
She appealed for continued vigilance, emphasising the role of residents in the fight against vandalism.
