Several people were injured after violent clashes broke out following a football match in western Libya, while a government building in Tripoli was set on fire, authorities said on Friday.
The unrest began in Tarhuna, about 80 kilometres south of the capital, after a match between Tripoli-based Al-Ittihad SCSC and Misrata’s Asswehly SC on Thursday.
The match, played behind closed doors, was halted shortly before full time after Al-Ittihad players protested a penalty decision they believed they were denied, according to Libyan news agency LANA.

Tensions escalated after the match, leading to confrontations between supporters and security personnel outside the stadium.
The Presidential Council said the council of ministers’ headquarters in Tripoli was targeted in what it described as acts of vandalism and arson, although the fire was quickly brought under control.
Authorities have called for an investigation into the violence, urging that grievances be addressed through legal channels rather than unrest.
