The Ghanaian government has assured consumers that the electricity supply will remain largely stable despite a scheduled maintenance exercise by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) on its facilities in Ghana on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), said it had been formally notified that the mandatory maintenance would run from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., during which gas supply to thermal power plants in Tema would be temporarily interrupted.

In a statement issued on January 17, GRIDCo explained that the maintenance was a routine safety requirement designed to safeguard the integrity and long-term reliability of the gas pipeline infrastructure.

The company noted that the exercise was part of standard operational procedures necessary for the safe transportation of gas across the network.

GRIDCo said measures had been put in place to minimise the impact on power generation, adding that alternative fuel arrangements would be deployed to ensure continuity of electricity supply throughout the maintenance window.

It assured that these arrangements were sufficient to keep the national grid stable during the exercise.

The transmission company added that stakeholders across the energy sector would remain fully engaged, with the situation closely monitored to ensure the works are completed within schedule.

GRIDCo apologised to the public for any inconvenience the maintenance might cause and appealed for patience and cooperation, stressing that the exercise was being carried out in the interest of national energy security.
