Wase Massacre: Armed Men Kill Dozens in Northcentral Nigeria

About forty people have died after unidentified gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Zurak village, Bashar District in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. Several houses were also burnt in the attack, which also left many residents injured around a popular mining site.

Although details of the incident are still sketchy, Saphi’i Sambo, a youth leader who is an eyewitness, said the gunmen entered the village at about 8 pm Monday, on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically.

Sambo added that other villagers fled Wase to neighbouring villages for safety. He added that the incident was not reported immediately to the security agents because of poor road and communication networks in that area.
