West Ham United have parted ways with head coach Graham Potter following a disappointing run of results in the Premier League, moving swiftly to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as his replacement.
Potter, 50, was dismissed on Saturday, with the club pointing to a string of underwhelming performances that extended from the latter stages of last season into the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
In a statement on Saturday, West Ham confirmed that a change was necessary to improve the team’s standing in the league as soon as possible.
Speaking through the League Managers Association, Potter admitted his disappointment at leaving the club: “I am incredibly disappointed to be leaving West Ham, particularly without achieving what we set out to at the start of our journey in East London. I fully acknowledge that the results have not been good enough.”
West Ham acted quickly to bring in Nuno Espirito Santo, the 51-year-old Portuguese coach who was recently dismissed by Nottingham Forest despite leading them to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 1994/95.
Santo has signed a three-year contract and will take charge of his first game on Monday against Everton.
Supporters will now hope that Espirito Santo can spark a revival and guide West Ham back up the Premier League table.
