West Ham United have announced the signing of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen from Leicester City on a five-year contract.
While the official transfer fee was not disclosed, British media reports suggest the Premier League club paid around £20 million for the 25-year-old Denmark international.
Hermansen joins West Ham as a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski, who left the club at the end of last season. He will compete with Alphonse Areola for the starting spot.
Hermansen had an impressive campaign with Leicester last season, making 72 appearances and helping the team win the Championship title despite being relegated from the Premier League.
The move reunites him with West Ham’s goalkeeping coach, Casper Ankergren, who previously worked with him at Brondby.
In a statement on the club’s website, Hermansen expressed his excitement about the move. “I played West Ham twice last season, and playing at the London Stadium was a great experience. It’s an amazing stadium with loud, passionate fans,” he said.
He promised to be “brave and bring good energy” to the team, calling the transfer a “great step” in his career.
Manager Graham Potter praised Hermansen’s quality and believes his “best years are still ahead of him.”
