Zambian authorities have arrested a senior opposition politician over a digitally altered image depicting President Hakainde Hichilema lying in a coffin, according to local media reports.
Mambwe Zimba, Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was apprehended in Lusaka following an investigation by the country’s Cyber Security Agency.
The post showed an edited image of President Hichilema in a casket, with Vice President Mutale Nalumango appearing to pay tribute.
Local outlet Lusaka Times reported that the image was shared on a Facebook page titled “Zambia for all 2026.”
The Cyber Security Agency of Zambia reportedly opened an investigation on Sunday following a complaint regarding the page.
The purported cybercrime was allegedly committed in Lusaka at an undisclosed time, authorities said.

Zimba, 44, was taken into custody at Libala South Water Works after cybercrime investigators linked the incident to the company.
A Samsung A24 cell phone allegedly used in connection with the post was reportedly seized by police.
Zimba was one of the administrators of the Facebook page that was the subject of the investigation, according to preliminary findings.
Law enforcement officials told local media the image was misleading and allegedly intended to misinform the public and create unnecessary alarm.
Zimba is being detained at the Central Police Station in Lusaka while the investigation is ongoing.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to authorities, and more arrests may be made as cyber specialists examine online activity linked to the page.
