Authorities on Tuesday said that 18 civilians were killed when their transport van was attacked in a section of western Niger by unknown assailants.
The nation’s Interior Minister Alkassoum Indatou said the incident occurred on Sunday and said the assailants invaded Tillaberi district on motorcycles, shooting sporadically.
He noted that 13 of the victims were from the village of Foney Ganda, and five were from the village of Tizegorou.
