A Nigerian civic technology platform has publicly called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the open distribution of large bundles of ₦500 notes to residents, describing it as a potential case of vote-buying ahead of the 2027 elections.
MonITNG, in a post on Monday, shared a video showing stacks of bundled naira notes being handed out to crowds, including many women, at a public gathering.
Text overlaid on the footage reads, “Wadada governor In god we trust.”
The group tagged the EFCC’s official account and accused the agency of failing to act on the “public display of cash distribution.”
‘Your silence is troubling’
MonITNG asked why the anti-graft agency had not taken action.
“Why have you failed to take action over the open distribution of billions of naira in bundled N500 notes to residents ahead of an election?” it wrote.
ATTENTION!!!
Dear @officialEFCC,
Why have you failed to take action over the open distribution of billions of naira in bundled ₦500 notes to residents ahead of an election?
Has this not raised enough concerns to warrant an immediate investigation into possible vote-buying?… pic.twitter.com/AA2rsR6cxQ

“Has this not raised enough concerns to warrant an immediate investigation into possible vote-buying? Your silence is troubling and raises serious questions about your commitment to tackling electoral corruption.”
It added: “How can Nigerians trust the fight against corruption when such a public display of cash distribution appears to go unchallenged?”
Demands for investigation
The group urged the EFCC to trace the source of the funds and identify those behind the distribution.

“Investigate the source of these funds, identify those behind the distribution, and determine whether electoral laws have been violated. Nigerians deserve answers, not silence or excuses,” it said.
“We demand an immediate investigation and a public update on the outcome. The EFCC must not look the other way while our democracy is potentially undermined by money politics. Nigerians are watching!”
