Eight Migrants Die, 15 Missing As Boat Perishes Off Tunisia

Not less than eight migrants have died while fifteen people are nowhere to be found as a migrant boat perished off a Tunisian coast.

The boat was trying to cross the Mediterranean to Italy, State Monastir Radio said on Thursday.

Earlier, coast guard had rescued 14 migrants who had been on a crowded boat in Chebba Town, Mahdia region. The boat sank at the time the coastguard came to their rescue.

There’s the constant danger of migrants sinking in the Mediterranean as they cross to European countries including Spain, Italy and England for better lives.

Some of these countries have made attempts to limit the number of immigrants who put their lives at risk by setting out on dinghy in search of greener pasture.

Tunisia has been a regular site of illegal emigration for locals who want better lives abroad. While hundreds end up dying and perishing along coastal lines, others who make it struggle to cope when they get to those countries.
