Djibouti’s President Guelleh Arrives in Mogadishu on Three-Day Visit

Djibouti’s President Ismael Omar Guelleh arrived the Somali capital, Mogadishu on Wednesday where he was received by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and other government functionaries.

Guelleh is expected to attend the commissioning ceremony of Somali Language Academy (AGA) and other joint Somali-Djibouti development projects.

A curfew was imposed in the city and flights at Adan Adde Airport were cancelled prior to the arrival of the Djiboutian delegation, in what Somali authorities said was part of efforts to safeguard security of the visiting head of state.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) however cited it as “maintenance.” Emergency and technical flights are exempt from the travel ban.

In a joint press conference, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said they would deliberate on key issues of mutual interest. Guelleh reiterated that his government’s support for an ongoing offensive against Al-Shabaab would be among issues on the table.
