Egypt’s President Appreciates BRICS for Membership Declaration

The president of Egypt, Abdeil Fattah El Sisi says the country appreciates the membership invitation extended by the world economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) to Egypt on Thursday.

President El Sisi in a statement, said the gesture was much valued, and went on to appreciate all BRICS member states.

“I value the declaration by the BRICS group to invite Egypt to join its membership as of January 2024. We appreciate the confidence of all BRICS member states with whom we share robust relations,” President Abdeil Fattah El Sisi said.

He revealed that the country was looking forward to “cooperating and coordinating with them, and with the other countries invited to join the bloc.”

“We look forward to cooperating and coordinating with them, and with the other countries invited to join the bloc, to achieve its goals toward strengthening economic cooperation among us and raise the voice of the Global South with regard to the various issues and development challenges we encounter in order to promote the developing countries’ rights and interests.”

Few hours ago, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were officially offered full BRICS membership with effect from January 1, 2024.

Around 22 countries had applied for BRICS membership, including Nigeria. However, Nigeria never made the list of approved states.
