A powerful explosion struck a residential complex in Taiyuan, the capital of northern China’s Shanxi Province, on Wednesday afternoon, seventeen people were injured, sparking renewed concern over residential safety in the region.
The blast occurred at approximately 1 p.m. in the Beiying neighbourhood of the city’s Xiaodian District. The force of the explosion sent shockwaves through the surrounding area, prompting a swift emergency response. By 3 p.m., firefighters had extinguished the blaze triggered by the incident.
According to local authorities, four of the injured remain in critical condition, while three individuals have already been treated and discharged from hospital. Rescue teams were deployed to conduct door-to-door safety inspections within the affected building to ensure all residents were accounted for and to assess structural integrity.
Officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, though no official explanation has yet been released. The incident has raised fresh concerns about public safety, particularly in densely populated urban areas.
