The National Gallery of Art (NGA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Atsur Technologies Ltd. to create a digital archive of Nigeria’s artistic heritage. This collaboration will ensure better management and global access to Nigeria’s artistic masterpieces.
Adaobi Orajiaku, CEO of Atsur Technologies, revealed that the initiative would digitize 3,000 Nigerian artworks, making them accessible to audiences worldwide. Atsur will develop a system to catalog and manage the NGA’s vast collection, improving the tracking, organisation, and retrieval of digital assets.
Furthermore, a secure API will be set up to provide public access to selected works, enhancing global visibility and fostering appreciation of Nigerian art. Orajiaku emphasised that this partnership would make the gallery’s resources easily accessible for research, education, and public engagement, helping to raise awareness about Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
The NGA’s Director-General, Mr. Ahmed Sodangi, also expressed his excitement about the partnership, highlighting its role in advancing technology for cultural preservation and broadening the reach of Nigerian art.
